Here's my story and journey with Sparkle Magic Events and how I have created a multi award winning business and to become the only wedding and event decor designer in Dundee, who offers a unique experience, such as your viewing your own "mini wedding" at your final appointment!

Late 2016

The creation of Sparkle Magic Events began and my journey of owning my own business began........who would have thought of everything I have achieved since would have been possible!!


My very first wedding took place and at this time I provided just 1 service, which was chair covers and sashes. I spent months crafting the art of tying beautiful bows and our couples loved them and Sparkle Magic Events started to grow and the introduction of centrepieces took place.

In late 2017 we found out that we were finalists in The Scottish Wedding how did that happen, utter amazement is the best way to describe  the feeling......just wow!!!


Well the year kicked off with my husband and I attending my very first wedding awards ceremony, little did I know then that this would be the first of many! The privilege I felt just to be at the awards was immense and to top it off I walked away with the Highly Commended Award............yikes what a way to start the year!!!

More weddings were being booked and more products added to our range, all very set items at this point, no option for personalising with colour etc. There must be a better way to provide my couples with the decor they want, after all every wedding is different. The introduction to change colour of flowers etc was introduced and wow what a difference it made to my couples!!!

I ended the year the same way we ended 2017 with being finalists again at The Scottish Wedding Awards..............I did it!


So 2019 started in exactly the same way as 2018 and off to The Scottish Wedding Awards I went, no awards this time, but hey that's ok as just to be there as a small business from Dundee, competing against some major industry businesses was such a huge accolade on it's own and I was so proud to be there and of the business I was growing.

This year just continued to improve as I became a recommended supplier to 2 venues......what an incredible endorsement of my business and everything I offer my couples. 

I added more products to our list of prop hire items, which included aisle decor and runner, simple arch and some backdrops

Well can you believe it but 2019 ended up with being a finalist for a 3rd year running at The Scottish Wedding Awards!!!!!


Well as you will know by now I started the year attending my 3rd awards ceremony since creating Sparkle Magic Events and I had so many weddings booked in and this was set to be my biggest and busiest year yet!!!!

Sadly we all know what the rest of 2020 had in store, yes covid hit and we had to close, but the work behind the scenes didn't stop as I had all my wonderful couples to look after through one of the most difficult times of their lives. Having gone from being weeks or months away from their weddings to not knowing when their weddings would take place.

It was a difficult time, yet we all got through it and some beautiful, small weddings did go ahead, and we ended on a high with becoming finalists for the first time in the Confetti Awards.


Wow what a year this was, yes we were still dealing with covid and all that this brought but it gave me time to improve Sparkle Magic Events and move away from prop hire into becoming a stylist. This saw me work much closer with my couples and give them more options to personalise their decor, whilst ensuring a cohesive look and feel to their day.


2021 would also prove to be the start of multiple awards being won and award nights attended and these included winning the Prestige Award, Dundee & Angus Business Awards and the Scottish Business Awards. We of course attended the Confetti Awards for which we were finalists in 2 categories, no win but boy what an honour it was!!!


Well this was the busiest year ever within the wedding industry as it was full steam ahead with all the weddings which had been postponed over the previous 2 years, plus current was wild but so much fun!!!

We were finalists at the Scottish Women's Awards and we were awarded the highly commended award for best small business. Little did I know at the start of the year that I would end up in the paper for winning a huge industry award!!!! Sparkle Magic Events became a finalist in the Great British Wedding Awards, which was a national awards and so my business was competing with other decor companies across Great Britain.........and we WON!!!!! I was utterly blown away and super proud and this moment led to me making some major business changes and wow am I glad that I did.  

The awards didn't stop there as I also won the Prestige Award for the 2nd year running, finalist again at the Scottish Wedding Awards & Confetti Awards!!!!


A major year for Sparkle Magic Events as I strived to offer something different to my couples, to live up to and exceed the awards I had won and transform the business, however major changes can't come without the support of others and in April I met the amazing Kelly Mortimer and her wonderful TNL membership. With Kelly's support and help, I moved away from being a stylist to becoming Dundee's ONLY wedding and event decor designer. 

Sparkle Magic Events now designs every aspect of our couples decor, ensuring that we transform visions into reality. I do not copy others work, yes we ask our couples for inspiration photos and from there I design and create bespoke pieces of decor for every couple.

I also introduced a very unique service, one our couples are loving and again the only decor designer in the area to offer this; your very own "mini wedding" set up in our showroom approx 6 weeks prior to your wedding. This appointment is just for the couple and a special time to preview their decor, make any changes should there need to be any, all with drinks in hand and tissues on standby for the tears........yes we get happy tears!

Once again we were at more award ceremonies which included the Nation's Wedding Awards, Scottish Wedding Awards and Confetti Awards.


This year started off with winning 2 awards: Luxe Life Awards and Innovation & Excellence Awards, another amazing start and we have lots of wonderful weddings to look forward to as well.

As I always look for ways to provide the best experience I can for my couples, I took the decision this year reduce how many weddings we take on each weekend and from now, we only take on 1 wedding a weekend. This ensures the best possible service for each couple and allows us to be able to stay from when we arrive in the morning until after room turnaround. This means we can move our own products and make sure they are set up exactly as our couples want them to be.

What does the rest of 2024 have in store? Well I don't know but I am excited to meet more new wonderful couples and design their weddings, all with the help of Denise who is a major part of Sparkle Magic Events.
